| All appropriate steps to ensure security being taken: Home Secretary | | | New Delhi, Aug 11: Union Home Secretary V K Duggal on Friday called the US Embassy advisory warning terror attacks in India as “innocuous”, adding that citizens should rest assured that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure their safety.
The US Embassy on Friday morning said that terror attacks could possibly take place in Mumbai and Delhi from August 11-16 and the likely targets are major airports, vital government installations and crowded places. The warning came a day after a major terror plot was foiled in Britain.
"The Embassy has learnt that foreign terrorists, possibly including al Qaeda, allegedly intend to carry out a series of bombing attacks in and around New Delhi and Mumbai in the days leading to the Independence Day. The likely targets are major airports, key central Indian government offices and major gathering places such as hotels and markets," the US Embassy advisory said.
Reacting to the news the Home Secretary said, “I have read the advisory. It is for their staff and citizens. We have nothing to say about it. It the job of the government, the Home Ministry to provide security to the people of this country and that is being done.”
"It is normal for a mission to issue advisories whenever they have information. We too do the same thing,” Duggal clarified.
"We do handle it (input) in an appropriate manner. We take all appropriate action. We sensitise all concerned agencies, state governments, we reinforce where it is required. It is the job of the government and Home Ministry to do their best to provide security and safety to the people and citizens of the country," he said.
“Be rest assured that all that is needed to be done is being done,” he said.
It must be mentioned that the Delhi Police last night arrested at New Delhi station two terrorists of Lashker-e-Toiba outfit, which is believed to be working with al-Qaeda. One of the terrorists was a Pakistani national.
Security has already been heightened across the country after the Mumbai blasts and in view of the Independence Day.
Further security measures are taken up to guard important installations including airports after the foiled terror attack in Britain yesterday.
A contingent of 38 National Security Guards personnel have been deployed at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research at Kalpakkam near Chennai following reports that major installations could be target of terrorists. |
