Railway police busts gang of robbers, 2 arrested

Jammu, July 21
Two persons, believed to be members of a gang involved in looting railway passengers after offering them intoxicated food items, landed in police custody when they were about to board a train at Jammu Railway station, here on Saturday.
The arrests were made when the duo was planning for their next trip from Jammu railway station and were discussing the modus oprandi for looting passengers, sources said adding, one of the arrested persons is a known robber and has undergone six months sentence in Jammu in a similar case in the past.
The arrested persons have been identified as Satya Narayan son of Hajoor of Balya district, UP and Manoj Kumar Chouhan son of Chander Dev Choudhan of Azamgarh UP.
They were sent to judicial remand by the Special Railway Magistrate Subhash Gupta till July 28 after which they will be again presented before the court, Post commander RPF, JK Kundal said.
Giving details of the arrest, he said that Railway Protection Force jawans in civvies noticed the suspicious movement of the duo on the railway station and kept a close watch on them. The RPF jawans soon came to know that they were planning something and were deciding which train to board.
The duo was immediately rounded up for questioning during which they failed to give satisfactory reply, the officer said adding, from their personnel search a biscuit packet was recovered which was to be used for intoxicating their prey.
The documents recovered from their possession have revealed the telephone number of entire gang members, he added.
When the accused were presented in the court it was learnt that Manooj Kumar has already spent six months in jail in a similar case and was released about two years back.
Police said that the accused will be questioned to ascertain the full details of the other accused so that they can also be apprehended.
