| New DGP talks tough | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, July 21: The new Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Kuldeep Khoda has warned his Police of serious action against dereliction of duty. After taking over as Police chief, Khoda today had a prolonged interaction with the officers and men of the Police at Srinagar. He lectured them extensively and heard them patiently but the end reminded them quire honestly that misconduct shall not be tolerated. He said that while the good work by the officers and jawans would be encouraged, but at the same time any misconduct and dereliction of duty would also be viewed seriously The Director General of Police said that people have many hopes with the police and it is incumbent upon all the ranks to meet their aspirations and to be ready to help them when in need. He asked the jawans to be decent with the people as they represent the force of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which earned their country-wide laurels during the past 17 years they have to be people-friendly and ensure that civilians are in no way harmed during frisking and routine checking and nakas. He said, adding that they should endeavor to be role models by their sense of duty, dedication and behavior. The Director General of Police underscored the need for maintaining the police-public friendly relations at all levels for restoring the confidence among the people in our system of functioning. He said we are meant to serve the people and protect their interests so that they fully realize that police is their own force and meant for their betterment and welfare. Listing out his priorities, the Director General Police said that police stations, armed units and other such establishments having large police-public interface, would be modernized with availability of latest equipments to serve the people better. Khoda said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has come up as one of the best forces in the country having played its historical role in combating the militancy during the past 17 years in protecting the life and property of people even by making supreme sacrifices. He said over 1400 valiant officers and jawans of the state police have sacrificed their lives for the larger interests of the people and the state, adding that this chapter of bravery of the force would be written in golden letters. He said all ranks of the force have to remain fully prepared to effectively meet the challenges and come up to the expectation of the people. He said on completion of training every police personnel takes an oath to even sacrifice his life for the sake of the nation and to maintain peace and order in service of the people and we have to remain prepared for it when ever the situation demands. He said much has been done and more remains to be done and we have to keep ourselves ready to make any sacrifice in protecting life and property of people.
