| SUKAST-J discusses farmer’s problems | | | DODA,JULY21--Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee meeting of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology-Jammu for Udhampur and Doda zone was held her today in which delegates from both the districts, large number of Scientists , Scholars , District Officers of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments participated. The meeting discussed various issues relating to the farmers and suggested various measures to tackle these. Dr. Pramod Baru, Director Extension Education chaired the meeting and said that to cater to the needs of the farmers KVK has started functioning in different villages of Districts. The twin districts having the identical agriculture problems need special attention of the scientists and called for close and coordinated efforts by both the University and the line departments for obtaining better results. Dr. A.K.Arora Deputy Director Extension Education said that soil erosion is age old problem of the District and impressed the need for arresting this trend.. He suggested reclamation of the vast land by creating barrier bunds and growing of grasses and other suitable crops. He also laid stress on developing the irrigation infrastructure in the district and suggested that the farmers be provided pump sets for the purpose. Joint Director Agriculture Extension Officer Dr.Durgey emphasized that paddy seeds be provided to the growers and improved cultivators must be made available along with other inputs like fertilizers and pesticides. Associate Dean Dr.R.K.Sharma presented the agenda of ZREAC- Kharif 2007 and suggested that only notified hybrid cultivar must be used for FLDS. Programe Co-Ordiinator KVK Bhadarwah Dr.S.Satvinder Lehria also spoke on the occasion. Those present in the meeting were Zaheer Mughal , Dr Sanjay, officials of SKUAST-J, KVK Bhadarwah and officers the line departments
