| Be friends of people: DGP tells force | | | Srinagar, July 21 - Director General of Police Mr.Kuldeep Khoda complemented the security agencies for their high-sense of duty and called for strengthening grievance redressal mechanism at all levels in the police organization, adding that this would instill greater confidence among the people. Addressing the officers and all ranks of force at Police Darbar held at PCR here spreading over two hours during which he heard their personal problems and gave on spot instructions for redress thereof. During the Darbar, Mr.Khoda sought their suggestions in further improving grievances redressal mechanism. He referred to the public hearings being held by officers at various levels and said this has proved fruitful in solving the problems of people in a very cordial and better way. ‘By this mechanism we get feedback directly from the people which can help us in improving in policing’, he added. Mr. Khoda said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has come up as one of the best forces in the country having played its historical role in combating the militancy during the past 17 years in protecting the life and property of people even by making supreme sacrifices. He said over 14oo valiant officers and jawans of the state police have sacrificed their lives for the larger interests of the people and the state, adding that this chapter of bravery of the force would be written in golden letters. He said all ranks of the force have to remain fully prepared to effectively meet the challenges and come up to the expectation of the people. He said on completion of training every police personnel takes an oath to even sacrifice his life for the sake of the nation and to maintain peace and order in service of the people and we have to remain prepared for it when ever the situation demands. He said much has been done and more remains to be done and we have to keep ourselves ready to make any sacrifice in protecting life and property of people. While paying tributes to police martyrs, Mr.Khoda asked the field police functionaries to provide all possible support to the martyrs families in their respective jurisdictions as they being members of our large police family. “Police martyrs have sacrificed their today for our better tomorrow and certainly it is our prime duty to look after their dependents”, he maintained. The Darbar was followed by an interaction session during which the jawans apprised their new Police Chief about the problems and sought his intervention in solving these. Mr. Khoda heard every participant in the Darbar patiently and assured to look into their problems sympathetically He issued on-the-spot instructions to the concerned authorities to work out a most effective and transparent mechanism for addressing the genuine problems of all ranks of the force. The Director General of Police said that people have many hopes with the police and it is incumbent upon all the ranks to meet their aspirations and to be ready to help them when in need. He asked the jawans to be decent with the people as they represent the force of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which earned their country-wide laurels during the past 17 years they have to be people-friendly and ensure that civilians are in no way harmed during frisking and routine checking and nakas. He said, adding that they should endeavor to be role models by their sense of duty, dedication and behavior. The Director General of Police underscored the need for maintaining the police-public friendly relations at all levels for restoring the confidence among the people in our system of functioning. He said we are meant to serve the people and protect their interests so that they fully realize that police is their own force and meant for their betterment and welfare. He said that while the good work by the officers and jawans would be encouraged, but at the same time any misconduct and dereliction of duty would also be viewed seriously Listing out his priorities, the Director General Police said that police stations, armed units and other such establishments having large police-public interface, would be modernized with availability of latest equipments to serve the people better. Welcoming the new Police Chief, in his welcome address, the Inspector General of Police, Armed Sheikh Owais Ahmed assured that all out possible measures would be taken for strengthening grievance redressal mechanism and serving the people in an exemplary manner. He said grievance redressal mechanism would be fine tuned to make it time bound and result oriented. He said after taking over as new Police Chief, it was his earnest desire to have interaction with the jawans in a Darbar. The Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Mr. S.M. Sahai, gave a resume of activities undertaken by police in Kashmir Division in recent months. He said the officers and jawans have performed their duties very valiantly in tackling the various situations. He also spoke on the welfare measures undertaken for welfare of the jawans Earlier the new police chief was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the contingents of JKP on his arrival at the PCR and all ranking officers and jawans greeted him warmly. Prominent among those present at the Darbar, were Inspectors General of Police, Mr. P. L. Gupta, Mr. J .A. Makhdoomi, Deputy Inspectors Generals of Police, Mr. Zahoor Hussain Chisti, Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Senior Superintendents of Police, Mr. Afadul Mujtaba, Mr. S. A. Malik, (AIG) Personnel Mr. Abdul Qayoom Manhas and other senior police officers.
