| Troops put on high alert along LoC | | | Jammu, August 11 :- The Indian troops, guarding the 750-km long LOC in Jammu and Kashmir, have been kept on a "high alert" following reports that agencies across the border planned to push into the state groups of militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons and explosives. Official sources said on Friday that troops were put on an alert after reports indicated that a couple of groups of militants had sneaked into the Jammu region from across Balakot sector recently. According to these sources, the soldiers have been asked to enforce the night curfew in the border belts of Poonch,Rajouri,Uri and Kupwara sectors strictly. The night curfew in the border belts was being enforced from 7 P.M. to 6 A.M. and in the towns of Poonch and Rajouri on the movement of people is between 9 P.M. to 5 A.M. Eyewitness accounts said that soon after the improvement in Indo-Pakistan relations anf following reports that the level of ingress of militants from across the LOC had dropped the security forces were liberal while enforcing night curfew in the border areas. However, after the peace process suffered reverses with serial blasts in Mumbai and the rate of infiltration having gone up in recent days the troops have been told to deal firmly with anyone found violating the curfew restrictions. As part of the toning up of antiinfiltration measures soldiers have been deployed in those pockets of the border which had remained "unmanned." According to sources in Poonch the entire LOC "stands sealed at present." He said security forces have been told to be vigilant against attempts of separatists and militants at kicking up disturbances during the Independence day celebrations. He said that since all the pickets of the Indian troops have been equipped with night vision devices monitoring of the movement of militants on the LOC had become easier. Various intelligence agencies in the state have pooled all their sources and resources for keeping the security forces informed about the plans of militants. These agencies have cultivated a large number of field sources, particularly from the border belts, who keep the agencies informed about the possible ingress or exfiltration of militants on the LOC. Official sources said that as a result of improved border management the level of infiltration of militants from across the LOC had started registering gradual decline during the last 15 days.
