HURRIYAT LEADERSHIP SEES DUST ON INDO-PAK RELATIONS SETTLING DOWN
8/11/2006 6:06:31 PM
Srinagar, August 11 : The APHC leadership is optimistic on the resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue as the dust kicked up by Mumbai blasts and expulsion of diplomats has started settling down which could pave the way for the resumption of Indo-Pakistan dialogue.
According to a former APHC chairman, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, "I see haze on India-Pakistan relations thinning and I am sure the bilateral talks will be resumed soon."

He told Kashmir Independent Press on Friday "the recent serial blasts in Mumbai had cast a thick haze on the improving relations between India and Pakistan which was followed by severe dust when the two sides expelled diplomats." He said that "this phase was not going to be a permanent affair."
Prof. Bhat stated "the dust is settling and the haze getting clear which may facilitate resumption of the dialogue."
He explained that "war is no option either for India or for Pakistan. The two sides have tasted the bitter results of armed conflicts during the last 59 years."
The APHC leader said that "except for talks, that too kashmir centric, there is no other option"adding that "talks without the Hurriyat leaders'participation and without Kashmir are inconceivable."
He suggested to Islamabad and Delhi to understand the realities and demonstrate "flexibility and sincerity" for resolving the Kashmir issue which continued to be the main key to the restoration of peace in the subcontinent.
In reply to a question Prof. Bhat said "it was for the Government of India to resume the dialogue with us. We have been always for a meaningful dialogue and our doors are open for it." He, however, said that "we can neither beg for the resumption of centre-Hurriyat talks nor force the Government of India to keep its channels of dialogue with us open."
"We are for the resumption of bilateral and later trilateral parleys because we are interested in peace in the region. Any delay in the resumption of Indo-Pakistan dialogue will only result in bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
