| Mangat distributes utility articles among poor | | |
JAMMU, JULY 22 Exhorting upon the Corporators to render social service to the people of the state, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma today said that true progress can only be attained when the benefits of development and welfare schemes reaches to the poor and needy people. The Minister was speaking at a function organized by an NGO- Satkar Helpline at Narwal Pain Satwari. Mayor JMC Mr. Narinder Singh, Ex-Mayor JMC Ch. Manmohan Singh, Secretary Red Cross Society Mrs. Santosh Magotra, Corporators and members of the NGO were present on the occasion. Calling social service as service above God, the Minister said that people should come forward in helping the deprived sections of the society and contribute to their welfare. He appreciated the efforts of Ch. Manmohan Singh who donated his salary for benefiting 15 people of the ward who were given pension and said that other people should follow his example and contribute in their own small way. Highlighting the decisions taken in the recent Cabinet meeting, Mr. Sharma informed that the subsidies being given to the orchardists especially apple growers in the valley will now be applicable to the entire state. Calling this decision as a path breaker, he said that this step will encourage equal development of all the three regions of the state. Earlier, the Minister distributed 30 sewing machines, 200 blankets and 50 kitchenware to the needy and poor. In addition, 15 Safai Karamcharies were also given blankets.
