JAMMU, JULY 22 Army today recruited 600 unemployed youth of Sunderbani tehsil, especially from border areas in a special recruitment drive conducted there. Lauding the role of army in providing employment to the unemployed youth of far-flung and border areas of the state, the Minister of State for PHE, Dr. Romesh Sharma thanked the Defence Minister Mr. A. K. Antony and Chief of Army Staff General J. J. Singh to whom he had approached during his last Delhi visit for organizing special recruitment drives in his constituency. The Minister informed that the minimum qualification for enrolment as soldier (General Duty) in the Army is 10th class pass whereas as per special dispensation provided to the youth from Nowshera and Sunderbani, the qualification was relaxed to 8th class pass. He said that a Territorial Army (TA) battalion would also be raised in the area soon. Earlier, Dr. Sharma informed that he had met Union Minister for External Affairs Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and discussed the problems faced by the people hailing from far-flung and border areas of his constituency. He said that due to personal intervention of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, now construction work on Bairi Pattan bridge started at a cost of more than Rs. 14 crore giving benefit to 6 lakh inhabitants of the area.
