| I have never approached UPA to seek VP’s nomination: Farooq | | | Srinagar, June 22 National Conference patron, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has refuted the reports in a section of the press that he had approached the UPA for his nomination as the Vice President of India. In a strongly worded statement, Farooq described such reports as baseless, mischievous, misleading, factually incorrect and politically motivated. He said that these reports are a manifestation of those who are badly shaken by his public resolve announced last year to lead the National Conference in the next assembly elections. He said such reports are being planted in some newspapers by those who are closely linked to certain political ideologies within and are frustrated. Farooq deplored such mischievous attempts by some vested interests to unnecessarily create confusion in the minds of the people of the state and asserted that such designs will not work and he is and shall remain in the state politics and serve the people of the state and the National Conference within the state of the J&K. Referring to the party's decision to vote for Pratibha Patil, Farooq said it was the unanimous decision of the party Working Committee chaired by the Party President Omar Abdullah and this decision was taken with the sole objective off strengthening the secular forces in the country.
