| Is Farooq serious with Congress? | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, July 23: A day after National Conference patriarch Farooq Abdullah blasted the media for carrying false reports against him on Presidential or Vice Presidential race, a Communist leader raked a fresh controversy on the barter proposal. For past month and a half, Dr Farooq Abdullah has been hogging the headlines on Presidential race or related political development. However, only yesterday he sought to settle the dust by rubbishing aside all those reports which suggested the Farooq was actively considering a role as Vice President of India. A leader of the CPI(M) told a news portal in New Delhi today that Farooq initially lobbied for the Presidential or the Vice Presidential posts with the Leftist parties but all his proposals were rejected. "Farooq Abdullah is an experiences and important leader of secular credentials but the post of President or Vice President is a ceremonial and needs seriousness", said the CPI(M) leader. He added, "unfortunately Farooq is not serious to handle this post". The CPI(M) leader, however, made startling revelations that Farooq approached the Congress to consider his party's alliance for the next assembly elections. Farooq told the Congress that the PDP has its own narrow interests and an alliance with the Congress can be a smooth run for both the parties. "His proposal is yet to be replied by the Congress", said the leader. Farooq's eagerness to join hands with the Congress can be gauged from the fact that his party voted for the Congress backed UPA Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil without being approached by any party. After the elections, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad reciprocated to National Conference's desire of joining hands with the Congress. Azad hinted that doors were open to any sort of alliance which is good for all.
