| Sexy Shilpa Shetty sends sizzling sound | | | BL KAK
NEW DELHI, JULY 23: Bollywood 'bombshell', Shilpa Shetty, is in news yet again. And this time Britain's tabloid, News of the World, contains a story loaded as it is with anti-Shilpa accent. The publication has quoted 25-year-old Kavita Kundra as claiming that Shilpa Shetty is now "an item with her film producer husband Raj". Shilpa has been accused of wrecking a marriage by the UK-based Kavita.
Agitated Kavita has told the tabloid: "Our marriage was in a rough patch but I was certain we could make it work for the sake of our new baby daughter. But then along came Shilpa. Suddenly Raj changed and now he wants a divorce". Reacting to the report, Shilpa's spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar has been quoted as saying: "The two are just friends, however cliched it may sound". And Bhagwagar's assertion: "All these rumors of Shilpa and Raj getting married are baseless. Raj is the licensor of the perfume Shilpa launched recently, so obviously they were seen together at public places".
Asked about his relationship with Shilpa, Raj Kundra also told the tabloid: "We're just friends. I have a business relationship with Shilpa regarding her perfume. My marriage ended 12 months ago and it was nothing to do with Shilpa". Later he telephoned to say he had only been estranged from his wife for nine months, according to the tabloid. Shilpa shot to fame earlier this year when she faced racist remarks on the UK reality show Celebrity Big Brother and eventually declared the winner. Last week, the actress received an honorary doctorate from Leeds University.
Kavita, according to media reports, is from a more liberal Indian background than Raj. She grew up in West Bromwich with three sisters and later did a degree in accountancy. She was only 18 when she met Raj through mutual friends at a party in Delhi in 2001, when he was already a successful businessman. But her life changed dramatically after she married him in 2003. The pair moved into his family home in New Malden, Surrey. Raj's parents were far more conservative than Kavita's and she was expected to cook for the entire family and any visitors. She was also expected to fulfill the role of the traditional Indian wife and not go out alone.
Initially she tried to adapt to her new circumstances and the first year of the marriage was happy. But in 2004 Raj made his first music video in Bollywood and their lives began to change. Raj's trips to India became longer and he stopped telling Kavita any details of his business dealings. Raj still lives with his parents, who have moved to Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
Kavita said: "If he is planning to marry Shilpa, I would say to her, good luck. I was never the kind of wife he wanted. He always told me, "You're not ambitious". Kavita says she no longer recognizes the man she fell in love with. 'He has changed so much since becoming involved in the Bollywood set,' she said. 'He looks and seems completely different. He is not the person I married.'
Another British publication, The Mail, quoted Raj Kundra as saying: "I am the licenser of a perfume with Shilpa Shetty. We met three months ago through her agent Farhath Hussain and developed the interest in the perfume. We are just good friends. My wife has always tried to link me to any woman I have been associated with professionally. She is very insecure. I am divorcing her on the grounds of unreasonable behavior-- that she never supported my interests or wanted to go out with me".
