| Panthers has kept alliance option open | | | Jammu, July 23 The Panthers Party, which won four seats in the 2002 Assembly poll, has kept its option for forging an alliance with like-minded parties during the next election open. “We shall watch emerging pre-poll scenario with the respect to new combinations and alliance and after that we will decide whether the Panthers Party opts for going alone in the poll battle or in alliance with some political party,” said Harsh Dev Singh leader of Panthers Party in the state Assembly. In reply to a question Harsh Dev said today “we could have some electoral understanding with the National Conference provided it does not have a secret alliance with the Congress.” He said there could be other alternatives but unless the pre-poll scenario crystallizes “we cannot take any decision.” The Panthers Party leader said “for the time being we have decided to enter the poll fray alone. We plan to field party candidates in more constituencies than we had contested in 2002 poll.” In 2002 election the Panthers Party had fielded its candidates in 34 constituencies and won four seats. It may be mentioned here that the Panthers Party polled, in all the 36 constituencies, 3.83 per cent of total votes polled which was higher than votes polled by the NCP, the JDU, the CPI, the CPM, JDS and RJD.Though the BJP had fielded party candidates in 58 constituencies it could win only one seat and had polled 8.57 per cent of total votes polled. This indicates that the Panthers Party’s share of votes was a shade less than the BJP. Harsh Dev Singh said “if we do not join hands with any political party we plan to field party candidates from more than 45 constituencies
