| 'Langate incident must shake our conscience' | | Social, moral, job security must get focused attention: Sayeed | |
Srinagar, July 23 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said with the improvement in the security scenario focused attention must now be laid on the issues concerning the public welfare including infrastructure development, basic amenities, moral, social security and employment generation. Addressing the party workers from Sonawar constituency of district Srinagar here today, Sayeed said the Coalition Government has, during the past five years, made strenuous efforts to address the issues concerning the welfare and betterment of the people. "Focused attention was laid on rebuilding of infrastructure and expansion of economy to put the State on the path of progress and create job opportunities for the educated unemployed youth," he said and added while education and health were the priority sectors for development, equal thrust was laid on development of road communication, drinking water, power and social sectors. Expressing concern over the mounting challenge of unemployment and social problems engulfing the people, Sayeed said while the more than decade long disturbed situation has played a role in aggravating the economic and social troubles of the State, the Government shall have to confront the challenge with imaginative policies and programs that open up fresh opportunities for the State's youth. "The issues of unemployment and social instability are being pondered over seriously in the society and the Government," he said and added that ways and means would be explored to take on the challenge to overcome the problem to some extent. Sayeed said besides its social and economic implications, the most tragic outcome of the turmoil is the growing crime and degradation of moral values in our society. "Once among the most peaceful places on earth, Kashmiris have to now see even the beastly blood-chilling acts like the one at Langate where an innocent girl was subjected to the worst kind of barbarism by some swine," he said and added that the society must now stand up before it is too late. Responding to the issues raised by the people from various parts of the Sonawar constituency, Sayeed said he would take up these issues at the appropriate level for redressel. The issues that were brought into the notice of Sayeed for redressel, include relaxation in no entry for trucks, adequate compensation for the land being notified in the area from time to time, permission for carrying out repairs of houses in the green belt area, construction of playground at Sonawar and speedy construction of Balhama road under ADB. A deputation from Mehjoor Nagar which included the representatives of Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and Khalsa Democratic Party (KDF) youth wing also called on Sayeed here today. They complained of faulty drainage and sewerage system in the area which has made the life of the residents miserable. They complained that no government so far has given any attention to the miseries of this area which is nearest to the Srinagar city. They said that the roads of the area are in bad condition and there is also scarcity of drinking water and demanded the immediate redressal of their problems. KDF demanded that the Sikh community of the State be given the status for minority community. Senior PDP leaders Ghulam Hassan Mir and Ghulam Qadir Pardesi were also present on the occasion.
