| Court grants bail two persons involved in fake currency racket | | | JAMMU, JULY 23- 2nd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Mr. AK Koul today allowed the bail petitions filed by two accused persons involved in much publicized fake currency racket and directed to release the petitioners from the custody. The bail applications were filed by Sonu Verma of Gali Malhotrian Jammu and Showkat Ali of Mohalla Baba Jeevan Shah, Shidhi Chowk Jammu. Both these bail applications were decided in a common order as both of them claimed to be innocent and have been falsely implicated in the case and are in jail since last one month. 2nd Additional Sessions Judge, after hearing Advocates AS Goni, AK Basotra and AM Bhat appearing for the petitioners and Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the state, observed that petitioners’ incarceration in jail is not going to serve any meaningful purpose, declining bail to petitioners’ means withholding it as a measure of punishment. An unreasonable long detention in jail before the commencement of the trial is ordinarily a hardship, which must weigh heavily in favour of the petitioners. With these observations Court allowed the bail petitions and directed to release the petitioners from the custody provided they furnish personal bond in the amount of Rs 50,000 each and two sureties each in the like amount. The petitioners would ensure their cooperation with Investigating Agency and their presence at Trial without fail.
