Azad, Dr. Abdullah participated in his last rites

Poonch July 24, 2007 : The mortals remains of Ghulam Mohammad Jan, MLA Poonch were laid to rest today at Poonch. His Namaz –e-Janaza was performed at Government Higher Secondary School ground Poonch which was flooded with thousands of people who thronged the place to pay tributes to their beloved departed leader.

Chief Minister – Gh. Nabi Azad and National Conference Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah, senior National Conference leaders, Legislators and leaders from various other political parties also attended the Namaz-e-Janaza of G.M Jan.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister said that untimely and said demise of Jan is not alone a loss to the National Conference or the bereaved family, but is an irrevocable loss to the State of Jammu & Kashmir as well. He said Jan was a very honest parliamentarian and a good public representative who led his people with dedication.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah described Jan as a friend of the people who had undeterred faith in him and his charismatic leadership. Dr Abdullah while recognizing his contributions towards the frontier District of Poonch and particularly towards the people of his constituency said that Jan would be remembered for times to come because of the qualitative and honest leadership qualities with which he served the people.

Dr. Abdullah said Jan was a secular leader who uphold the secular flag and worked for the upliftment and the betterment of the people of his constituency. He termed his untimely demise as a personal loss and said that the vacuum created in the party with his demise will be difficult to be filled in. " I lost a good friend and this loss is irreparable" Dr. Abdullah said.

Dr. Abdullah did Dastarbandi of Ejaz Jan son of Gh. Mohd Jan and expressed hope that Ejaz Jan would shoulder the responsibility of his late father to complete the uphill task which remained unfinished due to his untimely demise.

Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President, Jammu Province, Rattan Lal Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Kr. Rachpal Singh, MLA, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, MLA, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, MLA, Dr. Chaman Lal, MLA, Javed Rana, MLA, Mohd Aslam Khan, MLA, Abdul Gani Malik, MLA, Devender Singh Rana, MLC, T.S. Wazir, MLC, Ch. B.A. Naz, MLC, M.R. Qureshi, MLC also participated in the last rites.

Many party activists and Sr. leaders including Chander Mohan Sharma, District President Jammu URBAN, Surinder Singh Sanghari, Corporator, S. Sucha Singh and Anashanand Ganesh and others were also present and paid tributes to the departed leader.
