| Hawala accused sent to JIC for interrogation | | |
Jammu | July 24 Police today sent the ‘hawala’ accused to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) for further investigation. The accused was arrested some days back in the area with large quantity of hawala money. Sources said that during the interrogation police got many clues about hawala rackets operating in the state. The sources said Arif Ahmed, the king pin of the racket, was operating the hawala racket from many years and his arrest has caused great problems for the militant outfits operating in the state. Sources said with the busting of this racket, the Police have also obtained vital clues of the terror funding financial centres in South Kashmir. It is learnt that a hardcore militant commander and financial head of Hizbul Mujahideen operating from Pulwama district has been instrumental in passing on hawala money to the terrorists through his conduits for carrying out subversive activities in the state It may be recalled that some days back, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant was arrested in Ramban district and Rs.6.50lakh hawala money was recovered from his possession. On a to off the security forces had intercepted a vehicle on Ramban-Sangaldan road at Gool area of Ramban district and apprehended all the occupants in the vehicle. On search of the vehicle the forces recovered a bag containing Rs.6.50 lakh hawala money. . While four persons were let off after questioning, a HM militant identified as Arif Ahmed of Sangaldan was arrested and after his interrogation police also picked some more suspects who were helping the militants in the area. The sources said Ahmed had brought the consignment from self-styled HM Divisional Commander Abu Humera alias Abu Mastan operating in Awantipura area of Pulwama district. The consignment was to be delivered to self-styled HM Deputy Divisional Commander Abu Haneef alias Sher Ali, operating in Gool-Sangaldan-Mahore areas of Ramban and Reasi districts. Sources said during interrogation in police station he told that he was active in distributing hawala money from last many years and also purchased the material from outside of the state for the militants.
