Jammu | July 24
Balwant Thakur’s Dogri play Mahaboj based on the novel by Mannu Bhandari was staged today at Abhinav Theatre.
Todays show was sponsored by the Forum of Colleges, Jammu. RS Chib MLC was the chief guest on the occasion. The festival is being held by Natrang in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
As the play unfolds, the agricultural labourers bear the brunt of the wrath of their landlord for raising voice against atrocities. In gruesome act of person, their settlements are torched and nine innocent lives are lost. Beesu, a fiery young is murdered in a dastardly act and bold voice is strangulated. The murder of Beesu is sensationalized and every political party is out to earn maximum mileage out of it as elections are round the corner.
The media magnifies this tragedy beyond proportions. The chief minister, Da Sahib, mastermind behind the murder, uses this murder as a weapon to silence his opponents and suppress internal unrest within party ranks. The hurt sentiments of people of Saroha are nursed by installing a cottage industry project, thus providing employment opportunities. The play deals with both the hawkish lust of human beings for power and tenacity of human race to stand up courageously against all odds.
The play has the distinction of having presented in over 30 National festivals and is regarded as one of the most creative performance of Indian theatre.
The characters who presented a heart rendering performance included Suresh Kumar, Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Sanjeev Gupta, Pankaj Sharma, Dimple Sharma, Sat Salarbi, Pawan Verma, Deepak Verdi, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Mukulini Sethi , Kamaljeet Kaur, Prashant Sagar, Hemant Kumar, Pankush Verma and Ankush Lakhnotra.
RS Chib appreciated the efforts of Natrang in reviving the cultural life of Jammu. He was also presented a memento by the Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur.
