4 killed in Nadihal gunfight

Jammu, July 26: At least four people, which included two militants, were killed in a fierce gunfight in north Kashmir Baramulla's Nadihal village, reports said.
According to the police, Tuesday night troops of Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of police - acting on a specific tip off - surrounded a house in the village where militants were believed to be hiding.
Both the holed up militants have been successfully killed in the 24 hour long encounter which broke out between Police and militants, yesterday afternoon, at Lam-Mohalla Nadihal Baramulla.
A SPO also laid down his life while another SPO and a lady were injured during the encounter.
According to DIG North Kashmir Range, Dr.B.Srinivas, police got specific information that militants were hiding in the house of one Ali Mohammad at Lama-Mohalla Nadihal.
He said that acting on this information, Police Baramulla assisted by 32 RR swooped down on the house and as the police entered into the house, militants fired upon them injuring two Special Police Officers identified as Waheed Ahmad and Shah Nawaz in the first fire-fight.
While SPO Waheed Ahmed died in the encounter, Shah Nawaz was rushed to SKIMS Srinagar with neck injuries, he added.
He said that the encounter continued thourghout the night during which Police eliminated one militant namely Abu-Talha when he tried to escape by jumping out of the window.
However, one more holed up militant continued to fire upon Police who too was eliminated in the evening today, he revealed.
He further said while the identity of another slain militant is being ascertained, both the killed militants are believed to be foreigners. He said that apart from the SPO who was injured yesterday, a lady identified as Dilshada and three more Policemen also received minor injuries during the encounter.
He said that the encounter continued for more than 24 hours during which the house of Ali Mohammed was also damaged.
Search of the area is still on. Further details will follow.
'The militants opened fire on the security forces resulting in the death of a special police officer and serious injury to another,' a senior police officer said. The injured policeman was taken to hospital for treatment.
A standard 10 student, Tariq Ahmad Wani, was killed in the crossfire, the police officer added.
