Rajouri: In a major decision, Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Masud A Choudhary, has announced that an Engineering College shall be set up by the university at its campus in Rajouri from ensuing session. In the first phase, the college shall offer B.Tech in three fields viz, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication and Computer Sciences & Engineering. Admission process for these courses shall start in August 2007 and the college shall be inaugurated by Chancellor of the University, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister of the State, in mid- September 2007. Mr Choudhary said that establishment of Engineering College shall go a long way towards fulfilling aspirations of the people in the State in general and twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in particular. This part of the State has remained neglected and cut- off from mainstream technical education network so far. Even after 60 years of independence, there is no technical institution to offer professional degrees in this part of Jammu & Kashmir State. As a consequence, young aspirants of this area have to go all the way to the plains of India to seek technical education, very often in sub-standard institutions. The university also proposes to offer Bachelors and Master's degree technical programmes in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Food technology etc. in the coming years. The university offers in-house hostel facility for boys & girls, state of art laboratories, central library, round the clock internet facility, guest lectures by eminent academicians etc which has resulted in full campus placement of students of various disciplines in reputed National and Multinational companies. Very rigorous and highly competitive admission process is followed by the university, which comprises written Entrance Test and Interview. Academicians, students, political leaders and people from all walks of life have welcomed the step taken by the university regarding establishment of the Engineering College. The high level meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor was attended by Prof A R Nazki, Registrar and Prof A K Koul, Dean Academic Affairs
