Recruitment process receives impetus on Azad's behest
7/1/2006 12:21:42 AM

eARLY TIMES REPORTER
Srinagar | June 30

The impetus given by the Chief Minister Azad to the recruitment process for ensuring speedy selection of candidates on totally merit basis within stipulated time frame to fill the vacancies in various departments, has shown encouraging results and more than 800 selection for vacancies in different departments has been made by SSRB in last less than one year.
J&K SSRB has finalized the selection of 675 additional posts and by the August this year the entrance test for posts of Junior Engineers and Draftsmen would clear another list of 1300 positions for which development and engineering agencies are waiting for. This has been stated in a statement issued by J&K SSRB here today. "The swiftness that state's premier recruiting agency for the non-gazetted positions exhibited in its most eventful year is actually the outcome of the introduction of the state of art technology. Reception of the application forms for various posts, data entry of the aspirants, short listing and finally the selections was made a total scientific process using the best computing system in vogue. This has not only helped in saving a lot of time but also evolved a new system in which there is almost no scope for influence. The entire process is a transparent affair now", statement said.
It further say that after being mandated by the state government, SSRB has advertised around 6000 posts as part of the massive recruitment drive. With a new system in place, the Board received over three and a half lakh applications from across the state. The last application was received by the middle of April 2006. Within less than a month, the short-listing process had started but owing to the problem that around 10,000 applicants had skipped mentioning the posts for which they had applied delayed the process. SSRB could have rejected these applicants as per terms and conditions of the advertisement, but taking stock of the fact that the number was too huge and that the electronically devised application form was introduced for the first time in the state, it decided to grant the applicants an opportunity to make good the deficiencies. SSB officials said now the final short-listing has started.
The statement adds the Board functionaries take pride in revealing that within two months of the receipt of application forms, the Board has started notifying the list of candidates for conduct of interview and one such notification has already been published. The short listing of candidates, as notified now, again has a distinguishing feature of being provisional with participating candidates given an opportunity to make claims vis-à-vis inclusions and exclusions. This is aimed at making the selection process fair and more transparent. In this regard the Board also refers to notifying of selection criteria for each post along with the advertisement of the post which was widely acclaimed.
