| Centre releases over Rs. 3 cr to J&K under SGSY | | | JAMMU, July 26, 2007. The Union Ministry of Rural Development has released balance payment of first installment of Central share of funds amounting to Rs. 3.20 crore to 11 DRDAs of J&K State under the ‘centrally sponsored scheme of “Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana” (SGSY) during the year current fiscal. Of the total amount of Rs. 3.20 crore, Six DRDAs of Jammu Division namely Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur have been released a total central assistance of Rs. 173.84 lakh while five DRDAs of Kashmir Valley namely Anantnag, Badgam, Baramulla, Kupwara and Srinagar have been released the central assistance of the order of Rs. 146.94 lakh under the scheme while the DRDAs of Leh, Kargil and Pulwama are yet to receive first installment of Central share under the scheme. Under the scheme, Centre had to release a first installment of Rs.518.270 crores to 14 DRDAs of J&K State, out of this first installment, part payment of Rs. 160.38 crore has already been released by the Centre for 11 DRDAs of J&K State while the balance payment of first installment amounting to Rs.320.78 lakhs has been released recently. Under SGSY, assistance is given to the poor families living below the poverty line for taking up self-employment. It actively promotes group approach by organizing the rural poor into Self-Help Groups. Under the Scheme the State Government has to release its share within one month of the date of release of the Central assistance. The funding pattern of the scheme is 75:25 by the Centre and the State.
