Sharad Joshi’s popular Hindi play ‘Andhon Ka Hathi’ directed by Balwant Thakur was staged on the day 9 of Natrang’s silver Jubilee Theatre festival.
The play is based on a famous wisdom tale ‘Five Blinds and The Elephant’ and is a hard-hitting satire on politicians. Their approach in handling the affairs of the country, as of today has been beautifully portrayed. The story revolves around five blinds and an elephant. Sutradhar-the presenter of the play brings an elephant before five blinds and requests them to identify, recognize, give their own interpretations and find out the possible threats from him. In the process men catch hold of different pats of the elephant’s body. They touch the trunk, ear, leg tail and of opinion about the elephant. The conflict symbolizes the fight between different political idealogies and religious beliefs. The blind represent the establishment and its handling of important National issues. In a highly intellectual manner the whole theatrical performance draws the true picture of our country. When the narrator of the play tries to expose the blind men, they kill him. The system does not want to be questioned. Anybody who dares to do so will meet the narrator’s fate.
Cast of the play who presented a vibrant performance include Pawn Verma, Dimple Sharma, Deepak Virdhi, Gaurav Triyal, Rahul Chanda & Kamaljeet Kaur. Lights were designed by Anil Tikoo. Sound by Lokesh Chander. Properties were arranged by Pankaj Sharama, Costumes were designed by Deepika B. Thakur & Make up by Neeraj Kant. Public relations were looked after by Summet Sharma. Hall management was looked after by Sanjeev Gupta, Sartaj Singh, Pankush Verma, Gaurav Jameal, Vijay Koul & Mohd. Yaseen.
Natrang Director Balwant thakur while speakin at the conclusion informed that lot of exercise has gone into the selection of the plays for this important International theatre event and an effort has been made to present a bouquet of performances featuring different colors of themes and forms. This event will establish Jammu an International centre of theatre.
