Jammu to buzz with political activity this month-end

JAMMU:july 27
Jammu would remain abuzz with intensive political activity this month-end as the main political parties have planned to organize their conventions in the city.

Besides, party in opposition Bhartiya Janta Party state coalition partners, Congress and Peoples Democratic Party, would also hold party conventions in Jammu. While Congress holding a provincial level party convention on July 27, another coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party is organizing special functions in districts of Jammu region from July 28, which will last for one week.

Congress after organising a series of public meetings in the Kashmir valley has now diverted its attention towards Jammu region. The convention would be held at Abhinav Theatre Jammu on July 27, which would be addressed by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and State Congress Chief Peerzada Mohd Sayed. During the convention, the party activities would be reviewed besides consolidating the party cadres at the district level. The party leaders would not only highlight the achievements of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in past two years but also discuss the relocation of troops. The convention would help the state leadership to develop a rapport with the district leadership.

On the other hand, PDP is starting a week-long programme on its Foundation day, July 28. The celebration functions would be held in different district headquarters of Jammu province to mark the occasion. Programme schedule was discussed in a meeting held on Tuesday in Jammu. As per schedule, party would hold functions on July 28, 30, 31, Aug 2 and August 4 in different parts of the province, which would be attended by different senior party leaders. The concluding function would held on August 4 at Satwari Jammu, which would be attended by PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayed and former Deputy Chief Minster Muzaffar Hussain Beig.

Bhartiya Janta Party is also holding two-day state executive meet on July 28-29. Incharge J&K (Parbari) Shanta Kumar who is visiting Jammu would address the state executive members of the party. The party would discuss the strategy keeping in view the next assembly elections to be held in 2008 in the state. In 2002 Assembly elections, BJP could win only one seat while it had won eight seats in 1996 elections. Keeping in view the present situation, BJP State Chief Ashok Khajuria has to show his worth by winning more seats in the state. Presently, the party has been claiming to win almost 25 seats in the state.
