| PDP leadership satisfied with troops pullout | | | Srinagar, July 27 The PDP leadership seems to be satisfied over the process of pll out of troops from school buildings and orchards and hopes that the next step of reducing the strength of the deployment of troops within the civilian areas would follow. A senior PDP leader and a former Minister,Ghulam Hassan Mir,said today "yes we are happy over the start of the pull out of troops from the school buildings."In reply to a question he said that "we are hopeful that the committee constituted on examining the PP demand for troops reduction and the repeal of the Armed forces special powers Act would recommend in favour of it." Ghulam Hassan Mir said that since the level of militancy related violence had gone down the reduction of troops would be a natural process. He made it clear that "we alone do not say that the curve of violence has gone down.Others, including those from the central Government too say the same.Hence there is no rationale behind oppsing our demand for cut in the strengh of trops." The PDP leader said that the argument that militants strengthened and extended their bases during 2000 when noninitiation combat operation was enforced in the state was untenable because the overall security scenario was different at that time when compered to the present situation. He said that even if the Government waited for another four to six months for sending troops, deployed within the civilian areas, backto the barracks"we will have no problem. But the reduction will take place, sooner or later." Other senior PDP leaders said that once the recommendations of the committee of reduction of troops was known the political Affgairs and the working committee of the PDP will meet in Srinagar to chalk out its future strategy on the basis of the report of the committee. They, however, stated that "we are hopeful that the Prime Minister will fulfill the committment he had made to Mujfti Mohd.Sayeed in Marchlast on the issue. |
