Khuda emulates Azad by putting in 12 to 14 hours in his office chambers
7/27/2007 11:02:37 PM

Srinagar, July 27
Kuldeep Khuda, who took over as Director General Police on July 18,has been seen spending 12 to 14 hours in his office removing cobwebs in various wings of the police.
On Thursday he was present in his office chambers till 10.30 P.M. totally engaged in clearing files and preparing for new initiatives for the force in the field.Between July 19 and July 26 he spent time in addressing men and officers in the police headquarters,in the provincial headquarters and the District police lines in Srinagar and Jammu.Only after four days of taking over as DG police Mr Khuda flew to Delhi for presenting the demand of the state police for various modernization programmes with the Union Home Ministry functionaries.
Reports said that the Union Home Ministry officials were impressed with Mr Khuda’s presentation of the case as far as the need for better weaponary, vehicles and raising of additional police battalions was concerned.
Inside reports said that Mr Khuda has shown that he was highly accessible to officers and jawans. He has begun an exercise on identifying problems which various police units face.He has conveyed to his field staff that they could send details of their problems vis-à-vis accommodation, office or station buildings, vehicles and weaponary and communication system so that he could address these problems within the financial limitations.
Reports said that his immediate predecessor,Mr Gopal Sharma, has not left any difficult legacy for his successor except that Mr Khuda has to decide on the postings and adjustment of scores of SPs and DSPs.Mr Sharma could post four to five DSPs out of 50.This way the adjustment and posting of these officials is a ticklish problem for the new DG.Indications are that he may constitute a committee of senior officers of the rank of IG and DIG for sending a report of all the DSPs and SPs alongwith their new places of postings to him. This would help Mr Kuda to earn any displeasure from the officers.
Another issue that he has to use his influence related to the posting of one Inspector General Police,Mohd.Amin Shah, and 10 DIGs who had been recently elevated from the rank of SSPs.
