Jammu | July 27
When the protectors of law themselves break it where would the society go is a million dollar question that needs to be given due thought.
The police personnel who are considered the protectors of law have in many cases by passed their normal duties and ‘connived with the criminals especially the land grabbers’.
The sources said that several police officers with the help of some ‘criminals’ have succeeded in grabbing the land and thus causing loss of crores of rupees to the state exchequer.
Many police officers are reportedly involved in land grabbing in the city and have encroached upon vast land in the city and its outer areas including Bathindi, Narwal, Channi, Trikuta Nagar, Greater Kailash, Saink Colony, Gandhi Nagar and some other places.
They have adopted a novel method of encroachment. They first choose the disputed land and then encroach upon it by misusing their official position. Sources said many senior officers have also gifted the disputed land in many areas to senior officers for their prize postings. In many of the cases, the sources said, the Police officers are also silent partners with land grabbers and support them at every stage and even help them monetarily to run the land mafia. According to sources, some days back a police officer gifted a 25 marla piece of disputed land situated at Narwal area to a senior officer for pecuniary benefits. The concerned officer thrashed the claimants of a piece of land who were quarreling with each other on the possession of the land and even threatened to take the land forcibly.
It may be recalled that some senior police officers have even deputed the policemen on guard duty at the disputed sites just to take possession of the same with the passage of time.
Sources added that the officers who are enable to get land registered on their names get it registered on the name of their friends and others on fictitious names.
Despite Chief Minister’s clear cut instructions to act against the land grabbers, the illegal occupation of the disputed land especially that of the government land goes on unabated. The sources maintained that when the protectors are breaking the law themselves how can a commoner expect justice from them.
