| Govt mulling to appoint special judge in rape & murder case: CM | | | SRINAGAR, JULY 28 Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the state government is exploring the possibility of appointing a special judge for the trial of the accused in the rape and murder case of a teenaged girl in Langate area of Kupwara district last week. Azad said he would consult the Chief Justice of the state High Court for designating a special judge to have the trial of the accused on day to day basis. The announcement comes eight days after the 14-year-old girl was raped and murdered allegedly by four persons, including two non-Kashmiri labourers, at Batpora in Langate area of the district. The chief minister also announced a job for a member of the victim's family and a monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for the study of her siblings. Instead of politicising the issue, the focus should be on awarding an exemplary punishment to the criminals, he said, adding a criminal has to be treated as a criminal and not as a resident of a particular place. Azad had earlier raised to one lakh the reward of Rs 50,000 for the person giving any information leading to the arrest of the culprits involved in the case.
