| PDP sets new agenda for JK's stability, prosperity: Karra | | | Rajouri, July 28 – Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Minister for Finance, Planning & Law, Tariq Hameed Karra today said PDP has set a new agenda for peace, stability and prosperity of Jammu & Kashmir by beginning a sustained struggle for the political, constitutional, economic and social rights of the State's people. Addressing a function organised in connection with the Foundation Day celebration of PDP here today, Karra said his party has pursued its pro-people agenda with commitment and has stood by the people to fight for their cause and bring about a qualitative improvement in their lives. "Even within the given constraints PDP has untiringly worked for relief, succor and development of the people leaving indelible imprints across the length and breadth of the State," he said and added that the greatest achievement of the party is the public acknowledgment of its performance. Referring to the massive development that has taken place throughout the State during the Coalition rule, Karra said the Coalition Government has set new landmarks on the development front and justice was especially done with the areas that had remained completely neglected in the past. He said two major developmental interventions that are going to transform the economic profile of the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri are the Mughal Road and the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. Felicitating the people of Rajouri and Poonch for the clearance of the Mughal Road project by the Supreme Court yesterday, Karra said it is a good omen that the judgment coincides with the Foundation Day of PDP. He said work on the road would now be resumed in full swing so that it is thrown open for movement at the earliest. He said the opening of Mughal Road would not only provide shortest connectivity to Rajouri and Poonch with the Kashmir valley, but would also bring in huge economic opportunities for the people in these remote areas. Karra said time has come when all the while people across the State have suffered immense tragedies due to the turmoil, those living in the border areas like Poonch and Rajouri were the worst hit, as there is perhaps rarely any family in this area that has remained untouched by the scourge of violence. "Our priority must now be rehabilitation of the victims of violence," he said and added that adequate resources will have to be made available to take care of the orphans, widows and destitute to rebuild their traumatized lives. Karra said with the peace fast returning to the State, the Government would now concentrate on the issues of unemployment, social security and micro-development. He said while various ways and means are being explored by the Government to tackle the massive challenge of unemployment, the educated unemployed youth must also explore the self-employment avenues to create job opportunities for not only themselves but others as well. PDP leaders, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Master Tassaduq Hussain, Mohammad Sharief Tariq, Chowdhary Zulfikar, Master Fulail Singh also addressed the function.
