Governor visits women empower centre at Kharu Leh

LEH, AUGUST 11 -Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S. K Sinha today visited the Women Empower Centre (WEC) at Kharu 35 kms from Leh. This WEC is running under the Operation Sadbhavana by army and conducting many welfare schemes for women of Lakakh.
The Governor was informed that Trishul Division is running Women Empower Centre at Kharu which helps in widening the vision of women besides enhancing their self confidence. He was also apprised that WEC also imparts vocational training for upgradation of skill among women in various fields with the over all aim of making them better educated and more empowered.
Mr Sinha also inspected various training section of the WEC and expressed satisfaction over the overall performances of the WEC.
Later, the Governor while replying to the questions of media persons said that the operation Sadhbavana was first started with an allocation of Rs.9 crore. In view of getting satisfying results from Sadhbhavana schemes, the allocation under this operation has now enhanced upto Rs.55 crores, he said and adding that army is further determined to expand its welfare schemes to cover more and more down trodden people. He was much hopeful that a army public school would come up in Leh soon which would further strengthen education standard in Ladakh.
Referring to latest devastating flood in Ladakh the Governor said that the Chief Minister has already conducted tour in the affected areas for taking appropriate relief measures in this regard. However, he said that he is keen to visit some flood-affected areas and meet the suffering people tomorrow to take stock of the situation.
Earlier, the Governor also attended a cultural programme presented by the Women Empowerment Centre Kharu.
The Governor was accompanied by first lady of the state Mrs Premini Sinha, Maj Gen Ak Lal and President Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Trishul Division and other senior officers and ladies.
The Governor reached here today on two day visit. He was received at the Airport by GOC 14 Corp Lt Gen JK Mohanty, Deputy Commissioner Leh Mr M. K Dwivedi andother senior civil, army and police officers.
