| Congress legislators fulminate against ministers, Govt | | | Jammu,July 28 At a recent congress conventionin Jammu party ministers came in for sharp criticism by the rank and file in the organisation. In the presence of Mangat Ram Sharma, Gulchain Singh Charak, and Jugal Kishore party legislators,MPs, former legislators and block presidents had no inhibitions in hooting down the ministers. The main grouse of party leaders was that these ministers would not bother to inform and take along MLAs and block Presidents whenever they were on a tour of different constituencies. Their ire was so sharp that the Congress leaders attacked the coalition Government, without naming the Chief Minister, for having ignored legislators and people. Madan Lal Sharma, Lal Singh, Dharampal Sharma, RamanBhalla lashed out at the ministers for having sidelined genuine representatives of people. While some said that the ministers were trying to settle scores with the party leaders others blamed the Government for not honouring the recommendations of MPs and MLAs. Inside reports said that Chief Minister, Ghulam NabiAzad, had received a clear hint of the mood of the party leaders and hence reached the convention over three hours late. When he arrived at the convention most of the party leaders, including MLAs and MPs had already given vent to their feelings of disgust against the party leadership. Ministers and PCC office bearers were seen perspiring when party leaders said that several office bearers, including general secretaries and vice presidents, besides the PCC Chief had not maintained any link with the grass root party workers. Even senior party workers and leaders had not seenthe faces of the PCC office bearers who had become armchair politicians spending most of their time in theircosy and comfortable rooms. The ministers felt embarrassed when union Ministerfor water resources,Prof. Saifuddin Soz,also aired hisfeelings. He said he has become aware of the feelingsof disgust and anger among party leaders andworkers. He said he himself was pained to find thatfunds sanctioned by him for some projects when takenin hand he was not informed about it.He said he wasnot even asked to either inaugurate or lay thefundation of the projects he had sanctioned and inthis connection he referred to Rs.300 crores he hadsanctioned for various projects in the state. He saidwhen the work on these projects was started he was noteven informed leave apart inviting him to inauguratethe works. Raman Bhalla said that there was lack of coordinationbetween party functionaries and the ministers. He saidthere was need for the minisers to promotecoordination and link with people throughlegislators.Others said that the next poll was just 15months away and the way the ministers and PCC officebearers functioned it could destroy the Congress inthe state.MLAs said that it was strange andunprecedented that they were not allowed to visit thesecretariat before 3 P.M. and senior bureaucrats hadbeen directed not to entertain and honour theirrecommendations."people voted for us as they thoughtwe could redress their problems and grievancs.Wecannot do anything and if such a situation continueswe will have difficulty in receiving voters support inthe next election,"said several legislators.
