Kanjoos’ makes audience giggle

On the 12th day of Natrang’s Silver Jubilee Theatre Festival, hilarious play ‘Kanjoos’ an adaptation of Moliere’s famous comedy ‘The Miser’ was staged at Abhinav Theatre here today. The Play was brought to Jammu audience by Rex (U&A) Remedies Pvt. Ltd. The 15day Theatre Festival by one group is being organized by Natrang in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Health and Medical Education presided over the function whereas Mohammad Shoaib Akram Managing Director and Mohammad Arif, Director of Rex Remedies Pvt. Ltd were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively. The show was conducted by Naveen Arora.
This play revolves around Mirza Sakhawat Ali Beg, a middle aged widower who is obsessed with materialism and is a money grabber to the core. He has all wealth dug in the garden of his house and guards it like a snake. Azra and Farooq are Mirza’s grown up off springs. Both of them are passing through an age brimming with dreams of love. Azra loves Nasir who is living in Mirza’s house in the grab of a servant. Farooq adores Mariyam, a poor beautiful girl who lives in the same town. Farzina, a matchmaker of the town, anticipating goods rewards, moots a proposal of marriage of Mariyam with Mirza. Mirza is thrilled but his pleasure is cause of pain for his son, Farooq. For Azra, lMirza has found a perspective groom in Mian Aslam who happens to be long lost father of Nasir and Mariyam. Nambu, a shrewd and smart confident of Farooq and servant of the household very successfully helps every one realize their desired dream by plotting the theft of Mirza’s entire fortune. Loss of wealth makes Mirza delirious. Ultimately Nambu is able to make a bargain with Mirza and Mirza’s wealth is returned to him in lieu of Mariyam for Farooq. Play portrays the obsession of humans for money/wealth in comparison to cherished relationships.
The cast of the play who made audience give roaring applauses because of highly skilled and professional acting include Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Pankaj Sharma, Mukulni Sethi, Anjali Abrol, Suresh Kumar, Sanjeev Gupta, Sumeet Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Sanjay Bhat, Sahil Arora, Rohit Verma and Pawan Verma. Lights were operated by Suraj Ganjoo & Jai Ram, Costumes were designed by Deepika B. Thakur. Sets were designed by Deepak Virdhi & Pankush Verma. Properties were arranged by Gaurav Jamwal & Rahul Singh. Public relations were looked after by Sumeet Sharma while the Hall Management was looked after by Sartaj Singh, Mohd. Yaseen. & Rahul Chanda Pt. Mangat Ram, Hon’ble Minister, Mohammad Shoaib Akram M.D. and Mohammad Arif Director of Rex Remedies were honoured by the Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur for promoting the cause of theatre.
On Monday, tomorrow ‘Panja’ a Hindi adaptation of W.W. Jecob’s famous play ‘Monkey’s Paw’ directed by Anil Tikoo will be staged at 6 P.M. at Abhinav Theatre.
