| Workshop on Baseline Survey under TSC organized | | DDC exhorts for strengthening sanitation in rural areas | |
KATHUA, AUGUST 11 -District Water and Sanitation Committee, Kathua held one-day Training Programme on Baseline Survey (BLS) under Total Sanitation Campaign launched by Government of India here at Kathua today. District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Ms. Sarita Chauhan presided. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that it is very important to hold such type of training programmes, which aim at strengthening the sanitation status of the rural areas. She said that many schools are without latrines facility and there are many basties also where there are no household latrines and exhorted upon the functionaries to aware the masses about the importance of household latrines. Additional District Development commissioner Kathua Dr Mandeep.K. Bhandari who headed the whole workshop urged upon the rural development functionaries to create mass awareness to make this programme a grand success and this is possible only when the rural masses are such motivated that they voluntarily desire for construction of household latrines which can bring a social change. He said that due to open defecations various diseases are spread and erodes the dignity of people. He directed the panchayat functionaries to conduct the Base line Survey with sincerity so that exact information can be obtained and funds can be realized accordingly. Assistant Commissioner Development Kathua, Mr. Shyam Bijyal also addressed the trainees on the occasion. Emphasizing at total sanitation campaign needs to be taken up as a mission, he requested all the functionaries right from BDOs down to village level works to get whole heartedly involved in the base line survey and simultaneously mobilize and motivate the rural masses towards the importance and utility of individual household sanitary units. Earlier, ACD, (DPO), Samba, Ms. Indu Chib explained in detail about the motives and programmes of this survey. She provided training to the functionaries regarding the conduct of survey. Total sanitation campaign (TSC) is a scheme run by Government of India to stop open defecation in rural areas and sensitize the general masses about hygienic behaviour in everyday life. |
