5 dead in Shalimar blast
It is an act of frustration, says Patil

Jammu, July 29: Even as the government carries on with its campaign to attract tourists from across the country for improving economic profile of Kashmir, at least four visitors and a local were killed in a powerful explosion near the historic Shalimar gardens on the outskirts of Srinagar City.
Four of those who lost their lives in the gruesome incident have been identified as Gujrati visitors while a local girl was also killed and 22 others were injured. Chief Minister Union Home Minister Sh. Shivraj Patil has strongly condemned today's blast in a bus in Srinagar in which five persons were killed. Sh.Patil has express is condolences to the bereaved families. Describing the attack as an act of frustration by terrorists, he said that the Government would continue to work for peace an normalcy in J&K. Ghulam Nabi Azad and leaders of other parties have also strongly condemned the incident.
The blast occurred in a bus which had come from Gujrat. Earlier it was believed that the blast took place due to bursting of the compressor of the airconditioned bus but later the forensic experts confirmed the use of explosive material.
The victims were the Gujrati Muslims who had come to visit their local acquaintances, Police said.
According to Police, a low intensity blast took place in a Tourist bus bearing Registration No: GJ-23P-9977 near Shalimar garden today, killing five persons including four Gujrati Muslims, out of whom three are ladies and another one is a local Kashmiri lady.
Twenty two persons were also injured in the incidents who have been hospitalized, out of whom four were discharged after being given first aid
The Deceased were guests of a local Nawa-Kadal family who after offering prayers at Hazratbal Shrine were visiting Mughal Gardens. As they reached Shalimar, a low-intensity blast took place in the bus in which five persons including four ladies comprising of three Gujrati and a local lady were killed.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed grief and shock over the death of five persons and injuries to 16 others in an incident at Shalimar today and ordered investigation to ascertain the cause.
Immediately after he came to know about the tragic incident, the Chief Minister asked the Director General of Police and other officers to rush to the spot, evacuate the injured to hospital and ascertain details of the incident.
The Chief Minister said he was pained to know about the incident and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the health officials to provide best possible treatment to the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti have also condemned the blast. In a statement, the PDP leaders while expressing grief and anguish over the loss of innocent lives in the senseless attack have described it an act of frustration perpetrated by the elements having no regard for humanity or any religion. They said the elements perpetrating such bizarre acts of violence against the tourists are in fact the enemies of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. They said such terrible acts of violence are not only aimed at sabotaging the peace efforts but also set a blow to the rejuvenating economic activity in the State.
The PDP leaders have asked the people to stand up against such elements who are behind these dastardly acts so that they get isolated. They said it is the people who will have to raise against the elements who are hell bent upon destroying Kashmir's economy. Cautioning people against the efforts of certain elements trying to fuel discordant passions and create disharmony among the people, the PDP leaders said that such elements should not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious designs.
