| Blast in tourist bus: Police groping in dark | | Investigators clueless about nature of explosion; Bodies, injured airlifted to Gujarat | | Srinagar July 30
Despite lapse of more than twenty-four hours, Jammu and Kashmir police was still groping in dark about the cause of blast near Shalimar Mughal garden, which not only claimed lives of six persons, including five tourists and leaving over a dozen others injured but also shook the tourism industry in the trouble torn state.
Well informed sources in the police revealed that despite forensic examination the exact nature of the blast was yet to be ascertained which has almost jeopardized the entire investigation process.
"The investigation can proceed further only when the reports of forensic tests conducted at the site of the blast are received", a senior police officer told News Agency of Kashmir.
He said that the exact nature of the blast was yet to be ascertained. "Mere recovery of some wire pieces from the site of the blast is not enough to conclude that the blast was triggered with the help of a time device", he said adding, "We are trying to look into several aspects of the blast".
It is pertinent to mention here that a low intensity blast ripped apart a tourist bus near Shalimar, on the outskirts of Srinagar city on Sunday, killing six persons and injuring more than twenty others.
The cause of the blast was not immediately known and is being ascertained through Chemical tests by the Forensic science experts. The initial reports had suggested that the blast could have been caused by bursting of a gas cylinder or compressor inside the bus.
Meanwhile, the bodies of five tourists and injured were today sent to Gujarat in a special Air force Aircraft.
Talking to reporters at Srinagar airport, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal said that three injured tourists have received major operation, while condition of other person was stable.
Inspector General of Police, SM Sahai said that the Chief Minister sought the services of the Air Force who provided AN-32 Aircraft in which dead bodies of the five victims, 13 injured person and their 60 attendants were airlifted to their Home state of Gujarat in two flights.
He said that Medical support has also been provided by the state Health department aboard the Aircraft. (
