BJP protests against ration scarcity
7/30/2007 11:42:20 PM

JAMMU:July 30
To register its protest against non availability of ration items including atta, rice and sugar in government depots in Jammu city and issuing of threats to the non state subjects to leave the valley, Jammu East Mandal of BJP under Addl. Treasurer Rajesh Gupta, today took out a massive protest march, which started from Panjtirthi and after passing through main bazars of the city, culminated at City Chowk, where effigy of the coalition government and Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution department was burnt by the party activists.
BJP State President Ashok Khajuria, who led the march, held the policies of the state as well as central government responsible for shortage of ration items in the depots. He said the consumers are not getting ration for months together but the concerned department is sleeping like Kumbhkaran. If, at any place, there is atta, rice or sugar available in the depot, it is of sub standard quality. Even the animals too refuse to consume this atta or rice. He said the non availability of ration results in steep rise in the prices.Non availability of ration items in depots compels the consumers to move to open market. This increases demand and with the increase in demand, there is black marketing and hoarding.
Ashok Khajuria said that one can not understand why the poor people have to suffer whenever Congress comes to power. If the BJP-led NDA government could ensure the regular supply of ration items and keep the prices well within control, why can’t the Congress do it. He said the Congress has no concern for the common people. Its one point agenda is to ensure that a handful of big business houses flourish and it has left others at the care of God. There was no shortage of food items and no rise in the prices of items because BJP worked for whole population of the country and not for a few people. The BJP chief, on this occasion declared that the party is ready to make available documents of irregularities committed by the CAPD Minister provided the State Chief Minister assures of an independent inquiry and stern action.
Ashok Khajuria also took the Congress-led coalition governments in the state as well as at the centre to task for adopting soft approach towards the separatist and militant organizations which has encouraged them to such an extent that they are issuing threats to the labourers working in the state hailing from other states. He said giving long rope to Geelani and others of his ilk has resulted in such elements becoming bolder day by day and posing threat to the lives of peace loving non-state subject people. He feared if the government fails to wake up and take immediate steps to restore the faith of the non state subjects, mostly the labour class, the situation may go to such an extent that the people of J&K working in other states may too have to face problems. He asked the State Chief Minister to act or quit and urged the State Governor to dismiss this government if it fails to take action against all those involved in issuing threats to the non state subjects to leave valley.
Distt. Jammu (Urban) president Kavinder Gupta, on this occasion, declared that the party would take on the agitation path if the CAPD department do not mend its way of functioning and stop harassing the common people. He said that the people of Jammu city, who returned three MLAs to the state assembly and all of whom became ministers, are feeling cheated as these elected representatives are busy in their personal interests and have no time to think about the people. He also urged the State Chief Minister not to mislead the people on the slogan of Khushaal State . How much khushaal the state is clear from the present situation where people are not even getrting items of basic needs. BJP leaders including Yudhvir Sethi, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Subhash Gupta, Pardeep Sharma, Karan Singh, Dhan Swaroop, Ramesh Sharma, Madan Abrol, Pawan Pandoh, Shashi Pal, Sunil Dogra, Girdhari Lal, Smt. Vidya Devi, Rajesh Kumar, Sanjay Pandoh, Kuldeep Kandhari, Ajay Gupta, Subedar Gurcharan Singh, Anil Masoom, Surinder Gupta, Chaman Lal, Vijay Kumar ,Tarsem Jain and others were prominent among those who took part in the protest march.
