It is an irony that while Government is fighting the menace of corruption but at the same time government officials are encouraging the corruption by misusing their official position.
In the Police Department the ‘Karyakhas’ is considered as an important functionary and many officers often use this name for minting illegal money and to secure the jobs. The work of Karyakhas is to collect money from the people and pass it on to their seniors. According to sources the post of Karyakhas is not an official post but has been created for selfish motives by those who matter. The officer incharge of a police post use the Karyakhas for collecting money illegally from the people of the area and other hit list persons. Sources said some officers are not using those Karyakhas who are honest to the core of their heart. Karyakhas know all illegal practices going on in the area and are fully conversant with all those involved in the illegal trade and give them shelter. Sources added that many senior officers are also using Karyakhas and depute them in many police stations for keeping close watch on the officers and their work. Every big and small deal is settled by these Karyakhas who also earns commission for it. He is every time found wandering in the area for hunting and do not do his official duty. This is not enough the Karyakhas also deals with senior officers and the money thus collected from the lower rungs is being supplied to the higher ups.
As per the sources Karyakhas main objective is to earn money for his seniors by illegal
practices, as such is considered blue eyed boy of his seniors. The senior officers most
of the time are toeing the line of Karyakhas. A senior officer on conditions of anonymity
said that ‘they are forced to do such things as the illegal money has to be supplied to the
higher ups for getting the prize postings. As per reports the Karyakhas is known to all the
police personnel in the police stations and vice- versa and because of his connections
with higher ups no one is dares to ask him to perform his official.
According to sources some Karyakhas are so faithful to their officers that even when they are transferred they took them along to run the network in the new area.
A Karyakhas on condition of not disclosing his identity said that he earns huge commission for the work being entrusted to him adding that some of the
Kharyakhas are being promoted out of turn. At some places civilian are being used to work as Karyakhas so that no one have any doubt on him.
Government is creating hue and cry on curbing the corruption but in reality the poor people are being harassed. Government should take bold initiatives to check this malady(corruption) otherwise it will be too late to control.
