| PDP seeks account of Rs 100 crore employment fund | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, July, 30: Launching fresh round of scathing attack on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, though without naming him, the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti sought from the government account of Rs 100 crores which was set aside in this year's budget for employment creation. Addressing a party meeting in Badgam in connection with the foundation day of the PDP, Mehbooba also said that the present dispensation had deliberately slowed down the ambitious projects launched by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as Chief Minister. She said the scourge of unemployment has started posing major social and moral challenges now. She said even though a corpus of Rs 100 crore was created in the budget 2007-08 for exploring self employment opportunities for the unemployed, ironically, no progress has been made on this count so far. She asked the Government to see to it that the commitment made in the budget in this regard is fulfilled to tackle the challenge scourge of unemployment to some extent given the limited job avenues in the Government. Expressing dismay over the unnecessary inordinate delay in the establishment of the prestigious Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology DAIICT) at Ompora, Ms Mufti said despite her repeated pleas in this regard, no progress seems to have been made in facilitating the establishment of the institute that could have transformed the State's IT education scenario. She said each days delay in the establishment of this prestigious institute is proving costly for the State. "I fail to understand why such a good project that could help the State develop immense human resource in IT is being neglected so callously," she wondered. Mehbooba said even within the given constraints, PDP worked for relief, succor, development and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue ensuring unparalleled progress on these fronts. "Our greatest achievement is that not only have we set a people-oriented agenda for peace and prosperity, but we also gave a new credible direction to the State's political scenario," she said and added that with the descent of PDP on the State's political scene in 1999 ended the dark era of exploitative and opportunist politics that was the hallmark of our predecessors. She said the greatest strength of the PDP are the people, who have provided it the much-needed moral support in all its endeavors. "And I assure you, we would never let you down come what may," she said, addressing the huge gathering.
