On sex education, Minister joins Aasiya Andrabi
As Dukhtran, Manjeet Singh says culture, society don't permit such things

Surinder Raina
Jammu, July 30:
In a bizarre development, toeing the line of separatist hardliner and chief of Dukhtran-e-Millat Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, the junior minister for school education Manjit Singh has vowed the sex education shall not be introduced in the school curricula.
Interestingly, the reasons cited by Manjeet Singh to oppose the introduction of sex education in schools are a ditto copy of those flaunted by Aasiya Andrabi. The most talked about woman leader of the Kashmir's separatist conglomerate had recently hogged the national limelight for staunchly opposing the sex lessons in the schools.
The Minister of State for School Education Manjeet Singh, it cant be said is weather aware of the policy of his department or not but his opposition to the curriculum comes as clear rebuff to his senior minister. Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed had recently through a major advertisement campaign in newspapers sought to redefine the sex education as moral education in schools.
When contacted by EARLY TIMES, the Minister of State for School Education, Manjeet Singh, "we are not going to implement sex education in schools". When asked why, the junior minister said, "it is against our culture and society and therefore no question of implementing such lessons in the schools.
The sex awareness education is being introduced in the schools as a part of major national level campaign to make awareness about the spread of HIV/AIDS among the youngsters. The AIDS Control society in collaboration with the department of school education is tasked with its implementation in Jammu and Kashmir.
It may not be out of place to mention here that Peerzada Sayeed had to issue advertisements and press statements following an outcry raised by the separatist leader Aasiya Andrabi. However, his own junior minister opposing the idea on the lines of separatist leader, who is out on moral policing, seems to have made the things embarrassingly difficult for Peerzada.
On being contacted, the Director of J&K Aids Control Society, Dr. Wani, asserted that sex awareness will be implemented in every schools of J&K as a Moral Module Education subject from 9th class to onwards. However, the Chairman of J&K State Board of School Education Prof N.A. Genai also refused to go ahead with the idea.
Central Government had issue a circular asking every state to implement the sex education in their schools and ten states had refused it without giving any reason. Here it may be mentioned that BJP governed states had refused to implement it in their states. According to reports, there are almost one thousand confirmed cases of Aids in J&K and if proper education is not given to the people this data may be rise in future.
The Aids Control Society is making efforts to implements this education in schools but bottlenecks have been raised by religious leaders and self acclaimed moral preachers. Sources said that even the books had been published by the society for distribution among students.
