| J&K situation highly volatile: BJP | | Will fight for the rights of Jammuties and refugees’ | | ‘Jammu July 31- Describing the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir as highly volatile, the State Unit of the BJP has said that the recent spurt in the terrorist-related incidents in Kashmir and the Muslim-majority areas of Jammu province should be viewed in the context of the militant-friendly policies being ruthlessly pursued by the authorities in the state as well as the centre. In a political resolution adopted at the conclusion of its two day executive committee meeting, the BJP said that those responsible for discharging their constitutional obligations towards the nation are themselves wrecking the polity from within and directly giving respectability to the gun culture can be seen from the Prime Minister’s statement that there is the need to evolve a broader consensus on the issues of self-rule and autonomy and rendering the borders between India, the victim of terrorism, and Pakistan, the epicenter of terrorism, irrelevant and porous. The resolution said that while the local Congress is opposed to the PDP’s demand seeking demilitarization of the state and withdrawal of the anti-terror laws, the Prime Minister and his associates have already initiated a process leading to the implementation of the Working Group objectionable recommendations, including reduction in the number of troops, withdrawal of the anti-terror laws from the state, substantial financial packages for the armed militants of Kashmir origin operating in PoK and for the widows and orphans of the slain militants. The resolution further said that it was a matter of grave concern that the Congress-led UPA government is seeking to tinker with Indian sovereignty and spoil the Indian pitch in Jammu and Kashmir. Army is an integral part of any sovereign and independent state and any country sans army is not a sovereign state. But the Congress-led UPA government does not recognize this. Instead, it has politicized the whole issue of army by setting up two committees under the Defence Secretary to look into the demands as made by the PDP, which, like the National Conference, all separatist organizations and Pakistan, has openly questioned the state’s accession to India and the Indian presence in Jammu and Kashmir. It cannot be coincidence that Veerappa Moily, Congressman, former Karnataka Chief Minister and Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Committee have also recommended the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
