| Kulhand victim dies, docs’ negligence alleged | | Relatives hold protest demonstration | | Jammu,July 31 Relatives and friends of Bal Krishan, one of the victims of Kulhand incident, held a protest demonstration this morning at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu to protest against his alleged death due to doctors negligence. The doctors, however, say that cardiac arrest was the reason of the death. Bal Krishan, who had sustained bullet injury on his right leg on intervening night of April 31 and May 1, 2006 when militants attacked families of minority community in village Kulhand in Doda district killing 19 persons and injuring dozens, was admitted in GMC on May 31. Since then he has been operated on many times and was in very miserable condition as government also did not come to his rescue. “All other persons who were injured in the attack were helped by government and were paid Rs 25,000 but we were only paid a part of it”, says Surjeet Kumar, his son. He added that the life of his father could had been saved if the government would had helped him. “Due to the huge expenses on medicines and other things, my two siblings had no other option but to desert their schools and work in the fields to get some earnings for our ailing father”, he adds. Bal Krishan, say his relatives had sold part of his land so that he can manage his medicinal expenses. BJP leader Bali Bhagat lambasted the government for its approach to help the victims of militancy. He said that government is hardly bothered to pay any attention to the poor people who fall prey in the hands of the militants. Survived by two sons and a daughter, relatives of Bal Krishan say that the doctors had injected some wrong medicine that ultimately led to his death. “I have heard the doctors saying that some wrong injection was given to him which reacted in his body and finally led to his death”, alleged Surjeet. The doctors, however, say that Bal Krishan died due to cardiac arrest and denied any sort of foul play in his death. Family members joined by some BJP activists held a protest demonstration immediately after his body was shifted from ward to mortuary for post mortem. They were raising slogans against the hospital administration and the government. After postmortem his body has been handed over to his relatives for final rites.
