| Police unearth multi crore food scam in Doda | | | Kud, August 11: Doda police has unearthed a multi crore food scam with the arrests of seven dealers of Consumer Affairs and public distribution department Addressing a press conference here today, Deputy Inspector general of police Doda-Udhampur range M K Mohanty today told reporters that the official-dealer nexus was unearthed, when some dealers and shopkeepers of thathri and Kishtwar were caught red handed by thathri and Kishtwar police while transporting the BPL ration to different small shopkeepers of the locality. Giving details of the scam Mohanty informed the reporters that Doda Police has launched a drive against drug addiction and black-marketing and during the course of action one Bharat Bhushan Sharma, shopkeeper was found involved in selling of ration of Food & Supplies Deptt. in connivance with local employees of CAPD and shopkeepers of Prem Nagar in Thathri area for their personal benefits by means of criminal breach of trust and causing huge loss to state exchequer and poor people of the area. On this information, a case FIR No. 35/2006 U/S 3/7 EC Act, 409 RPC was registered at Police Station Thathri. He further said that during the course of investigation, SHO Thathri along with Executive Magistrate 1st Class visited the spot at Prem Nagar where a truck TAT A 407 bearing registration No. JK02AA/955 was found loaded with 12 Qtls. of wheat bags of Food & Supplies Deptt. Which was being transported to other small shops, he added. The said TATA Mobile along with ration was seized from the spot and found that it was wheat from store of Shopkeeper Bharat Bhushan Sharma R/O Prem Nagar for further delivery to small shops of the area. He said adding On physical verification of store of Bharat Bhushan Sharma, more 17.1/2 Qtls rice and 08 Qtls sugar of Food & Supplies department was also found dumped in the store illegally which too was seized in the case. Total ration seized in the case amounts to Rs. 36825/- He said that Doda was always in news due to militancy, but this time it is due to the misdistribution of ration meant for poor people provided by the government under different schemes. He said that the bungling in CAPD department Doda was established and further investigation was on. “No record was found on checking some Ration dealers and even no challan or voucher was seen” he said adding that the ration dispatched from Jammu was never received by the people of this militancy torn district. “In a routine manner ration dealer is supposed to deposit the amount with the CAPD officer (TSO) but no such system was seen in these areas”, Mohanty added. He said a big group was operative in the district in connivance with the officials of the CAPD and even the involvement of FCI officials can not be ruled out. The case after preliminary investigation would be handed over to vigilance department for further investigation. Added he Replying to a question, that whether any CAPD official was arrested or questioned, Mohanty said that the case was at its primary stage and as and when they are required by the police they will be questioned. He however did not rule out their involvement in the scam. SSP Doda, Monawhar Sing who was also present in the press conference, informed reporters that further investigation of the case was going on to ascertain the involvement of other officials of CAPD department in the misappropriation of Government rations which will be established only after the physical verification of the stores (which is under process) is over. He however said that they would continue the drive and all those involved would be brought to books. |
