| Fuel tanks dry for PDP leaders | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 2: Adding salt to the bruises of an already tormented relation between the ruling partner, the security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police have withdrawn fuel facility to some Peoples Democratic Party thus kicking off yet another bitterness. It has been reliably learnt that the security wing, which is responsible for providing security, vehicles, drivers and fuel to the protected persons, have withdrawn some of the facilities to some Peoples Democratic Party. However, this has not been done in case of the Congress leaders. Confirming this to EARLY TIMES, a senior PDP leader said that the government is making deliberate attempts to irritate them and their leaders. He said, "since the Home department comes under the charge of Chief Minister…therefore at the face of it one can make out that our facilities have been withdrawn on instructions of the Chief Minister". Two senior functionaries of the Peoples Democratic Party holding key charges at their Jammu headquarters have written to the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda to look into the matter. "A letter was faxed to the DGP today and a response is yet awaited", said a senior PDP leader while levelling allegations of the partisan approach of the government. The PDP leaders have said that earlier vehicles of some party leaders at the district and zonal level withdrawn but the party did not make an issue out of it. When asked, why alarm was not raised at that time, he said, "we were engaged with the government on a larger issue (demilitarisation) and therefore we preferred not to undermine the importance of the important issue". This time around half a dozen PDP leaders have been asked to manage fuel at their own though they have been allowed with their vehicles and drivers. He pointed out that withdrawal of fuel facility to the senior party leaders who are also important office bearers have come as shock for the party. "It is not the issue of few litres of fuel that of available to us but the government move reflects an approach of harassment to the leaders of major coalition partner", said the PDP leader who also alleged that people from his party are being pushed to wall. The appropriate authorities directly connected with the implementation of this decision could not be reached for their comments despite repeated attempts. However, EARLY TIMES is in possession of a letter written to the DGP about this issue. Meanwhile, an officer of the security wing of Police said while requesting anonymity that this has been done as a part of austerity measures and has nothing to do with the political considerations. He claimed that the fuel facility of some Congress leaders too has been withdrawn.
