| SAC questions Panditji | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 2: The Congress veteran and the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma has come under the scanner of the anti-graft panel for making some illegal appointments when he was incharge of the Industries department. A petition before the State Accountability Commission has alleged that when Mangat Ram Sharma was Deputy Chief Minister and incharge of the Industries and Commerce departments, he made illegal appointments in the Khadi and Village Industries Board. The petition accused him of scuttling the rules to adjust wards of his relatives, colleagues and those of the officers of the Board. Khadi and Village Industries Board is a centrally funded autonomous body connected in the state with the department of Industries and Commerce. By virtue of his being Minister for Industries, Mangat Ram was the chairman of the KVIB when the appointments in question were allegedly made. The State Accountability Commission after due perusal of the case has issued notice to Mangat Ram Sharma and two KAS officers (who were in the board at that time) to explain their position. The SAC Chairman directed Mangat Ram Sharma and his staff J.P.Singh the then Secretary and at present Dy. Director Estates and Mr. R.C.Sharma ,at present Secretary J&K Khadi village Industry Board to file their statement of defence, failing which, appropriate inferences under Law can be taken against the Minister and the other respondents. The commission also directed that the entire record pertaining to the illegal appointments has been ordered to be taken in custody of the secretary and to be produced before the Commission for scrutiny.
