The journos were trying to expose irregularity in the department
Jammu | August 2
Media persons today lodged a strong protest against Director Health Services Jammu Dr Jasbeer Singh when some of employees of his department assaulted two press reporters and broke the camera of a lensman in front of him. When some media persons demanded action against the erring employees for their misbehaviour, the director snubbed the media men.
According to reports, two reporters of electronic media went into the office of Director Health Services to shoot some shots of ambulances being used as goods carriers and immediately the employees informed the director about this.
According to reporters, Director Health Services ordered some of his employees to stop the (cameraman) and ordered them to snatch their camera. Employees of department started beating them and threw his camera resulting damage to this costly gadget.
When other media persons came to know about the incident they rushed to the director’s office and pleaded for action against the erring employees. Instead of taking any action against his own employees, the director is alleged to have misbehaved with the press people and refused in clear terms that he would not take any action against his employees.
Following director’s refusal, the pressmen held a protest demonstration at busy Indira Chowk and blocked the road for about an hour and later held another demonstration at Tawi Bridge disrupting the vehicular traffic for nearly two hours.
Sensing the mood of the pressmen and gravity of the situation, Dr Jasbir rushed to the Tawi Bridge and apologized for the unruly incident and assured action against the erring employees besides getting the camera repaired free of cost.
On this assurance, the media men dispersed and later lodged a FIR against the erring employees of the Director Health Services.
