Srinagar, August 3: One among the eight militants killed during fifty hour long encounter along line of encounter early this week has been identified as a local who according to police records was missing person 1993

Identified as Ghulam Rasool Mir, he was a resident of Hill Patheri Bijhama Uri.

Sources in Police told KMT that Army today handed over to local police the bodies of eight militants killed in fifty hour long encounter at Zorwar Khandnar along Line of Control in Uri sector that took place early this week between Army and a group of ultras who were trying to sneak to this side.

"While the identity of seven ultras could not be ascertained, one of them figured in the list of missing persons present with Bijhama Police station", sources said.

He has been identified as Gh. Rasool Mir, son of Faqeer Mir, resident of Hill Patheri Bijhama

Eight militants, a Colonel and a soldier were killed during fifty -hour gun-battle near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Baramullah district when personnel of 9 Maratha Light Infantry on guard foiled an intrusion bid on Monday night near Ghodetal
Sources said that while other seven unidentified dead bodies have been buried in the graveyard of Braripora, the body of one militant who turned to be a local was handed over to his family members.

"He was in the list of 'militancy related missing persons' of police station Bijhama" police said.

Eight AK- 47 rifles, 16 AK Magazines (05 damaged) 315 rounds of AK ammunition, three grenades, one GPS, one Solar battery charger, one wire cutter, one coloured photo copy of Indian Map (Matrix -infiltration area) and five Acid bottles, were recovered from the site of encounter .
