| PPC of Health deptt wants old members to join | | | Surinder Raina Jammu | Aug 3 Several names are making rounds, especially of the blue eyed boys, about their inclusion in the just formed Provincial Purchase Committee of Health and Medical Education Department. The sources close to higher ups revealed that some members of the erstwhile Central Purchase Committee are lobbying for their inclusion in the newly set up purchase committees at the divisional level. The sources maintained that the newly elected members too are interested to involve some of the members, especially those close to them, of the erstwhile purchase committee in the provincial level purchase committee for the reasons best known to them. According to the reports, Central Purchase Committee (CPC) came into existence in 2002 after cabinet approval. All the Medical Superintendents of Medical College and its Associated Hospitals were the members of the Central Purchase committee and empowered to make purchases of medicines, medical equipments and other materials used in hospitals. Following its failure to finalize the tenders regarding purchase of medicines and other surgical instruments, the government was forced to dissolve the central purchase committee and instead set up committees are the provincial levels. The Provincial Committees are headed by the respective Principals of the GMC, Jammu and Srinagar with Director Health Services, Director Indian System of Medicines (ISM) and HoDs of each department as its members. However, the government has made it amply clear that no Medical Superintendent of any hospital would be associated with these committees. The sources said that non inclusion of Medical Superintendents is mainly due to the fact they had allegedly committed some bungling in making purchases being the members of the Central Purchase Committee. Sources revealed the some medical superintendents who were the members of CPC are trying to enter in the new committee and building pressure on the government to rethink over the formation of the PPCs or include some of the members of the erstwhile Central Purchase Committee into it.
