| Ex-solider’ from Uganda arrested in suspicious circumstances | | | Jammu, Aug 03 Army arrested an African national, who claimed himself to be a retired Lieutenant Colonel from Uganda , while moving in suspicious circumstance near an army cantonment area in the outskirts of Jammu, winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. "A foreign national, who was moving is suspicious circumstances in Satwari chowk, was questioned by military police", defence spokesman Col Goswami told News Agency of Kashmir. He added that on questioning the foreigner identified himself as Rashid Shaidna son of Muhammad Yousaf of Kampala, capital of Uganda (a land locked country in East Africa), a Lieutenant Colonel, who has resigned from Uganda army before coming to India. "The foreigner was handed over to local police for further questioning", he said. Sources in the police department told News Agency of Kashmir that a photocopy of visa (No 900130 valid upto 13-12-2008) was recovered from his possession which also has his passport No B0497444, issued by the government of Uganda and Vaild Upto December 2015. "However, he has failed to produced to the original documents claiming that the same were lying in Mumbai, where he was residing before coming to the state", a senior police officer said on the condition of anonymity. The arrested person has further claimed that his father was serving in government and was killed by militants few years back. The 42 year old foreigner is in India since 2005 during which he has visited various places including Mumbai, Delhi, Ajmeer and Srinagar, sources said adding, he has served in army for fifteen years before resigning from the job. It was also learnt that during the questioning by the polie the foreigner has claimed that he was looking for a job in India and as such was moving from one place to another. "His credential are being verified from various sources", police said.
