| Hakeem chairs review meeting | | Modernization of Rs 20 Cr Ahjai canal under progress | | Srinagar August 03 Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen reviewed progress of various development schemes under execution in Budgam district at a meeting of officers here today. The meeting took stock of various works under execution in irrigation, flood control, R&B, water supply schemes and construction of school buildings. Speaking in the meeting Hakeem Yaseen said that modernization of Rs.20.51 crore Ahji canal in Budgam district is presently under progress with full swing. On completion the canal would provide irrigation facilities to more than 22000 acres of land in the district, he added and said that so far Rs.4.35 crore have been utilized on the renovation of this Maga Project while as the government has released Rs.5 crore for further improvement works of the project during fiscal year. Hakeem Yaseen expressed concern over the deteriorated drainage and sewerage system of Rawalpora and Alamdar colonies located in the south of Srinagar city. He stressed to expedite the process for sanctioning of Rs.2.31 crore projects formulated to improve the drainage and sewerage system of these two prime colonies. He said Rs.96 lakh would be spent for renovation of Gassi koul in Khan Sahib area while as Rs.26 lakh stands released for completion of Humhama Water Supply Scheme. He underlined the need for improving the power supply in the far-off areas of the district. The Minister called on the engineers of various development departments for completion of ongoing schemes besides formulation of plans for those projects, which are off urgent and public utility nature. He exhorted upon the engineers to redouble their efforts for completion of all on going schemes in the district in schedule time frame. He stressed for utilization of funds earmarked under ARWSP, APDRP, Bharat Nirman and Prime Minister’s Sarak Yojana and completion of other schemes under the programme.
