A Special Police Officer was killed in an ongoing gun battle between militants and police in Marmat area of mountainous Doda district.
The encounter erupted when a special team of Doda police launched a massive combat operating at Seri Top in Marmat area, early this morning, Senior Superintendent of Police Manhor Singh said.
As the cops were cordoning off a suspected militant hideout, they came under heavy fire. A SPO, whose identification could not be ascertained immediately, was gunned down in the initial stage of gun battle.
The troops returned the fire triggering a fierce encounter. The gun battle, reports revealed, was in progress, when the last report came in.
